Winter Weather Tonight

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for much of the northwest 2/3rds of Oklahoma. Freezing rain and drizzle are expected tonight. As of 9:30pm the freezing line is generally along I-44 and will continue to shift south during the night, albeit slowly. 00z NAM continues to produce about 0.14 inches of precip across the area through 6pm Thursday. Amounts in eastern Oklahoma will probably be a little higher. Recent warm days mean the ground temps in the mid 40s in central OK and near 50 in southern sections. Of course up north, it is in the upper 30s.

What most of this means is that the morning drive time in Tulsa and Oklahoma City will be a little rough as elevated surfaces glaze overnight. Ground objects should be okay, except in northeast Oklahoma where ice accumulations may occur.

Eastern Oklahoma should get more freezing rain Thursday night, with everything ending on Friday. The issue Thursday night is how much warm air moves up into the state. Could be that only northeast Oklahoma gets more freezing rain Thursday night.

After Friday, look for a somewhat pleasant weekend, at the very least void of freezing rain.
