..RECORD DAILY RAINFALL ALREADY BROKEN AT OKLAHOMA CITY


FROM MIDNIGHT TO 7 AM THIS MORNING... 6.28 INCHES OF RAIN FELL AT
WILL ROGERS WORLD AIRPORT. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS SEPTEMBER 10
RECORD OF 2.40 INCHES SET BACK IN 1925. THIS RAIN TOTAL IS MORE THAN
THE PREVIOUS STATEMENT ISSUED EARLIER THIS MORNING. THE NEW READING
IS FROM MANUAL MEASURING...WHILE THE PREVIOUS WAS FROM AUTOMATED
EQUIPMENT...WHICH OFTEN UNDERESTIMATES EXTREMELY HEAVY RAINFALL. THE
6.28 INCHES WAS RECORDED AT THE OFFICIAL MANUAL OBSERVATION POINT AT
WILL ROGERS WORLD AIRPORT.

THE TOTAL SO FAR THIS MORNING IS ALSO THE 2ND GREATEST SEPTEMBER
DAILY PRECIPITATION TOTAL ON RECORD. THE GREATEST DAILY RAINFALL
TOTAL IN SEPTEMBER IS 7.53 INCHES... WHICH FELL ON SEPTEMBER 22
1970.

IN ADDITION... THE ANNUAL PRECIPITATION NOW STANDS AT 50.55 INCHES.
THIS TOTAL NOW RANKS AS THE 2ND WETTEST YEAR ON RECORD. THE GREATEST
ANNUAL PRECIPITATION TOTAL ON RECORD OCCURRED IN 1908...WHEN 52.03
INCHES FELL.

IF ANY ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OCCURS TODAY THIS RECORD WILL BE UPDATED.
