…VERY WET JUNE THIS YEAR ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA…

A NEARLY STATIONARY WEAKNESS IN THE UPPER LEVEL WEATHER PATTERN
INTERACTING WITH A WARM AND MOIST ATMOSPHERE BROUGHT A LOT OF
RAINFALL TO EASTERN OKLAHOMA.

TULSA OKLAHOMA RECEIVED 9.17 INCHES OF RAIN IN JUNE 2007…WHICH IS
4.45 INCHES ABOVE AVERAGE…AND RANKS AS THE 9TH WETTEST JUNE ON
RECORD SINCE 1904. THE WETTEST JUNE ON RECORD WAS 14.87 INCHES IN
JUNE 1904.

A DAILY RAINFALL RECORD WAS SET ON 27 JUNE 2007 WITH 2.62 INCHES
RECORDED AT TULSA. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 2.57 INCHES
IN 1904.

MEASURABLE RAIN…DEFINED AS 0.01 INCHES OR MORE…OCCURRED IN
TULSA ON 20 DAYS THIS JUNE. THIS IS THE MOST NUMBER OF DAYS WITH
RAIN RECORDED IN JUNE AT TULSA SINCE 1904. ONLY TWO OTHER MONTHS
SINCE 1904 HAVE HAD 20 OR MORE DAYS OF RAIN IN TULSA…21 DAYS IN
APRIL 1957 AND 21 DAYS IN MAY 1946. THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF DAYS
WITH MEASURABLE RAIN IN JUNE IS 9 DAYS FOR TULSA.

THE RAIN AND CLOUD COVER HAVE KEPT HIGH TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL
FOR JUNE. THIS JUNE…THE MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH WAS 84.9
DEGREES…WHICH WAS 3.1 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR JUNE. THE HIGH
TEMPERATURE WAS AT OR ABOVE 90 DEGREES ONLY TWICE IN JUNE…WHICH
NORMALLY AVERAGES 13 DAYS AT OR ABOVE 90 DEGREES. IN FACT…THE
TEMPERATURE HAS YET TO REACH 92 DEGREES THIS YEAR. SINCE 1905…THE
LATEST TULSA HAS HIT 92 DEGREES IS JULY 5…WHICH HAPPENED IN
1908. THIS RECORD MAY BE BROKEN THIS YEAR…AS TEMPERATURES ARE
FORECAST TO REMAIN BELOW 92 DEGREES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

MCALESTER OKLAHOMA ALSO RECEIVED A LOT OF RAINFALL THIS
JUNE…WITH 7.87 INCHES RECORDED. THIS IS 3.34 INCHES ABOVE
AVERAGE FOR JUNE. A DAILY RAINFALL RECORD WAS ALSO SET IN
MCALESTER ON 27 JUNE 2007 WITH 2.36 INCHES OF RAIN. THE PREVIOUS
RECORD WAS 0.86 INCHES IN 1983. RECORDS BEGAN IN 1953.

MCALESTER ALSO HAD A HIGH NUMBER OF DAYS WITH MEASURABLE
RAIN…WITH RAIN RECORDED ON 18 DAYS THIS JUNE. THIS IS THE MOST
NUMBER OF DAYS WITH RAIN IN MCALESTER IN JUNE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN
IN 1953. MCALESTER RECEIVES 8 DAYS OF RAIN IN JUNE ON AVERAGE.

ACCORDING TO THE OKLAHOMA CLIMATOLOGICAL SURVEY…THE STATE
CLIMATOLOGIST FOR OKLAHOMA…THE LAST 30 DAYS HAVE BEEN THE
WETTEST ON RECORD IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA. THE ENTIRE STATE OF
OKLAHOMA HAS HAD THE WETTEST JUNE ON RECORD SINCE 1921…WITH ALL
BUT THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE REPORTING ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL.

THE AFFECTS OF THE UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM DID NOT AFFECT LOCATIONS
FURTHER EAST ACROSS NORTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS UNTIL
LATER IN JUNE. THIS RESULTED IN LESSER AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL…WITH
BOTH FAYETTEVILLE AND FORT SMITH ARKANSAS REPORTING BELOW NORMAL
PRECIPITATION THIS JUNE.

CHANCES FOR RAIN WILL REMAIN IN THE FORECAST FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS AS AN
UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN REMAINS OVER THE REGION.
